Tibo van de Zand draws inspiration from the changing landscapes and light of his home base in Utrecht, sunny Andalusia, and the mystical Ardennes, where he collaborated with his father for many years. In his paintings, he does not translate exact reality, but rather the atmosphere and emotion of these places. With an expressive palette and powerful brushwork, he brings memories and impressions to life, allowing color and movement to tell their own story. Each painting invites not only observation, but feeling.
Tibo’s black-and-white works reveal the power of simplicity. By eliminating color, he creates a world of contrast and stillness, where the essence of line, form, and shadow takes center stage. These works possess a quiet intensity and invite reflection. Here, Tibo demonstrates his mastery of visual composition, with each element carefully chosen to achieve maximum impact.
Tibo works in a style strongly influenced by Fauvism, reminiscent of artists such as Henri Matisse and Kees van Dongen. His use of color is powerful and intuitive, often releasing realistic tones in favor of emotional expression. This gives his work a vibrant, almost pulsating energy.
Alongside his painting, Tibo also works as a sculptor. His sculptures, both independent and commissioned, are a natural extension of his expressive signature. By playing with material, volume, and space, he creates forms that are powerful, present, and at the same time poetic. Each sculpture invites touch and direct experience.
